Received July 18, 10.20 a.m. MELBOURNE, July 18. The price of the hurdler Bribery, which has been purchased for New Zealand, is £6OO. CHRISTCHURGH. July 18. Corona was scratched for the Grand , National Steeplechase at 9 o'clock this morning. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCriUKCII, July 18. Assaver was scratched for all engagements at the Grand National Meeting at 12.45 p.m. to day. WOODLANDS HUNT CLUB STEEPLECHASE MEETING. Entries for the steeplechase meeting to be run on the Pahiatua Racecourse under the auspices of the Woodlands Hunt Club, on Wednesday, August 7th, will close with the Secretary, Mr G. L. Hawley Drew, Pa'iiatua, at 9 p.m.. to-morrow, Saturday, July 20th. TURF NOTES. (By Zetland.) THE WELLINGTON MEETING. The Wellington Winter Meeting •will open at Trentham to-morrow, and will be continued on Wednesday and Saturday of next week. The fix-tu-e promises to be a very sucsessfut one, for over one hundred horses are engaged on the first day, good acceptances having been received for every event. The Wairarapa horses that ma- sport silk to-morrow are:—Gawai.-, Platypus, Jolly Friar, Warlock, Clem, Hinupai, Matakokiri, Narcotic, Royal Blue, Dulcinea, Mataan, Hatley, Naphtha, La Torpedo, Sen Sim, Don Carlos, Lucrietus, Merrie Zealand, Strathcona and Oblivion. This list goes to show how Wairarapa owners patronise the Metropolitan Club, and their enterprise in sending such a contingent down may be rewarded by a fair share of the stake mmey coming this way. A double totalisator will be opened on the Winter Hurdles and Parliamentary Handicap. The following may run me most forward in their respective engagements: — Stewards' Handicap—Gawain and St. Claimer. Miramar Hack—Warlock and Scenery. Hack Hurdles —'Matakokiri and Idasa. Parliamentary Handicap— Kuku and Intelligence. Winter Hurdes —Pushful and Pantutu. Trial Plate—Wallasey and Hillspring. Te Aro Hack Scurry—Toa Tuhi and Martyrium. Sandix has been lightly blistered, but will be ready for work again in the early spring. Letherin has been put into work again, and is improving very fast. It is probable that he may be tried at hurdle racing during the coming season. The scratching of Mahuta for the Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps was probably caused through his owner not being satisfied with the weights allotted the black colt. For the New Zealand Cup he is still quoted at 16 to 1, but at this price backers are not anxious to do business with the pencillers. Mr James Macara, has ready for work at "Brookfield," four likely candidates for jacing honours next season. Sharkeyn has improved considerably during the winter, having furnished in the right directions. Lochiela, by Merrie England—Warnote, has also been well wintered and has filled out nicely. The black filly by The Workman—Russley Belle, and therefore half-sister to Riflemaid, bears a very solid appearance, and should be ready to race early in the spring; A chestnut filly,, rising three years, by Saracen—Culverin, engaged in this year's Wairarapa Guineas, is one full of quality, and in point of conformation would be hard to beat. Under ordinary circumstances this filly should prove worthy of her breeding when her time come s to carry the colours.
