"MR HORNSBY'S SOCIALISM."
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Your correspondent, "G.D.," is wrong. I voted against Sir W. Steward's Bill for the election of the Legislative Council, because I deemed i£ undemocratic. If a Bill is brought do?yn for the election of the Legislative Council by the people of this Dominion, on the same franchise 3S that which exercised for the ejection of. members of the House of Bepresentatives, I will assuredly vote iQr am, etc., J. T, M; HQRNSBY.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—lf Mr Hornsby has allowed himsell to be misunderstood, he has only himself to thank. In the letter which I was criticising he charged Mr Wilks with having "of set purpose disregarded the meaning of words," flung the Bible in his face, and insultingly compared him to Judas Iscariot. In order that Mr Wilks might ascertain the "meaning of words" his attention was directed to a sermon of the Rev. John Glasse and to "the literature of the Fabian Society." On being confronted with a sample of the Fabian proposals, Mr Hornsby now protests that they do not represent the particular brand of Socialism which he has adopted. Then, why did he refer to the Fabian literature at all? Such a reference was absolutely pointless, if not intended to give the impression that it represented his own views and what he conceived .to be the "meaning of words." No welder he feels angry and humiliated when he sees his false coin promptly nailed to the counter. Mr Hornsby's complaint of the anonymity of my letter will seem amusing to people who remember the famous action "Moriarty v. Hornsby."—l am, etc.,
