(Abridged from Press Association Report;) LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, July 16. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 o'clock. The Hon. H. Scotland gave notice to move that in the opinion of the Council the pay of the members of that Chamber should be the same as that received by members of the other House. The South African Reciprocity Bill from the other Chamber passed all its stages. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The St. Andrew's Church (Wellington) Trustees' Empowering Bill was read a second time. The Otaki and Porirua Trustees Empowering Bill was read a first time. The Pure Food Bill was taken in Committee. Sub-Clause 4of clause 8 setting out that no copy of analysis by the Government Analyst shall be used as an advertisement, met with considerable opposition. The point was made that as the object of the Act was to provide pure food no limitations should be placed on the person whose goods had successfully withstood the ordeal of analysis setting forth the good points of his produce. The Minister urged that it was undesifaßle" to give the manufacturer of foods a chance of being able to obtain an analysis at a cheap rate without any particular reason, and then using the analysis for advertising purposes. Under this Bill all a manufacturer need do who desired cheap analysis was to get a friend to instruct an officer to secure samples of the food and submit them to the analyst when a certificate could be obtained on paymente£iialf-a-crown. The sub-clause vSpT'ffe-. tained by 35 votes to 20. Clauses 8 11 were agreed to, and clause 12 \ slightly amended. Progress was reported and the House rose at 5.30 o'clock. jj*
