THE FIRE BRIGADES ACT.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Permit me through the columns of your valuable journal to refer to the decision arrived at by the Trust Lands Trust when allocating the usual annual grants in withdrawing the Fire Brigade grant due, I believe, to a member stating that the "Brigade now belongs to the State, and is not a Municipal concern," which is entirely erroneous. Assuming that such is the case it applies equally to the Fire Police (who were voted a grant) who will come under the jurisdiction of the new Act when the Board meets. As the impression has gained currency that the local Brigade will be under State control I would like to point out that the only difference will be that control will 'be vested in the local Fire Board instead of the Borough Council. The Board will consist of three members of the local authority, insurance companies three, and one representative nominated by the Government. Thanking you in anticipation.—l am, etc., E. PRAGNELL, Secretary Masterton Fire Brigade. Mastarton, July 13th, 1907.
