HOCKEY.
GLENGARRY v. HINEMOA. A match was played on the Showgrounds, yesterday afternoon, between the Glengarry and Hinemoa (Carterton) teams. The game was a fast and interesting one, and good play was shown by both sides. Some brilliant work was done at times by the Glengarry team. The game resulted in a draw, neither side scoring. Hinemoa attacked at the commencement of the game, but fine play by Misses Pike, McGregor, McKenzie and Gordon removed play to the centre. Hinemoa returned to the attack. Exciting play followed, but mainly through the efforts of the Glengarry full-backs the pressure . was relieved. A Glengarry forward rush placed Hinemoa on the defence, but they eventually cleared their . line, and removed play to the centre. Give and take play ensued, and then Miss Pike was prominent in heading a Glengarry attack. A combined rush by the Hinemoa forwards placed Glengarry on the defensive. The visitors made strenuous efforts to score, but the home team's defence was too good. Misses McGregor, A. Davenport, and Gordon were instrum 'ntal in clearing the line. Misses A. Devenport, Hood and E. Devenpoitook the ball down the field, but hard hitting by the visitors removed play into the home team s territory. Give and take play took place for the remainder of the spell. In the second half some fine individual work was shown by both sides. Hinemoa led off with an attack, but clever play by Misses Logan, A. Devenport, McKensie, McGregor, Pike and Scott placed the visitors on the defensive. Hinemoa cleared their line, anl play centred. The visitors attacked strongly, and once or twice narrowly missed scoring, but the p-ood defence of Glengarry saved the s tuation. The remainder of the spell was evenly contested, and the final whittle sounded ,without any score. Mr !>. Iveson was referee. After the match Glengarry entertained the Hinemoa team at afternoon tea. GARRY OWEN v. EKETAHUNA. The Garry Owen and Eketahuna Ladies' Clubs played a friendly match, at Lansdowne, yesterday afternoon, Garry Owens winning by nin goals to nil. Eketahuna are a young club, and this was their first match. Taking this into consideration they played a good game, but the < ombination and clever play of the Garrv Owens won the day. The teams were as followGarry Owen: Goalkeeper, Miss K. Hanley; full-backs, Misss R. Chapman and A. Stempa; halves, Misses M. Collins, M. Stempa and M. O'Toole: forwards, Misses N. O'Leary, N. Coyle, K. O'Leary, M. Hourigan and V. O'Connell. Eketahuna: Goal-keeper, Miss Kershaw; full-backs, Misses Nilsson and Torwick; halves, Misses Sparksman, McDonald and Fogdon; forwards, Misses J. Anderson, Ch-istian' sen, A. Anderson, Watson and Seymour. Garrv Owen attacked from the "bully/' and Miss O'Connell scored a goal from a scramble in front of the posts. Then Miss K. O'Leary made a splendid run up the line, and after centring nicely scored a good goal. Eketahuna then attacked, but Misses R. Chapman, N. O'Leary and N. Coyle transferred play to Eketahuna territory, and Miss K. O'Leary, making another fine run notched a second goal for her team. Play was of an even nature for a time, but Garry Owens again attacked, and Miss Hourigan, centring the ball, enabled Miss K. O'Leary to score her third goal. Miss K. O'Leary again took tb -> ball down to tha goalkeeper, but Cviifi? Kershaw saved in fine style. Th? whistle then sounded for half-time. The home team : gain placed the visitors on the defensive on resuming, and Miss N. O'Leary by a splendid hit just inside the circle notched a goal for Garry Owens. The next goal was scored by Miss M. Stempa. Eketahuna rallied, and Miss A. Anderson was instrumental in taking play to Garry Owen territory. Miss K. O'Leary, however, took the ball back again, and scored a wellearned goal. Miss N. Coyle then scored a goal from a forward attack by the home team. Miss M. Stempa sending the ball into the circle enabled Miss N. Coyle to notch another goal for her side. The whistle sounded shortly afterwards. The Garry Owens played excellently in all departments. Miss K. O'Leary played a brilliant game in the forwards, her pace enabling her to score all her goals. Her dribbling rushes were a feature of the match. Mias N. Coyle also played a splendid game. The rest of the forwards played well. Misses M. Collins and M. Stempa played well in the backs, and Miss Chapman played a safe game at full-back. Eketahuna lacked combination, but showed good individual play. Miss A. Anderson was prominent in the forwards, and Misses Watson and Seymour also put in good work. Miss Sparksman showed up well in the backs, and was ably assisted by Misses McDonald and Nilsson. Miss Kershaw, at goal, stopped several shots in good style. Mr J. B. Rue was referee. After the match the local club entertained the visitors at afternoon tea. HUIA v. FEATHERSTON. The Huia and Feaiherston teams played a match at Greytown, yesterday, the latter winning by two goals to nil after a game in which the winners had rather the best cf the play. Misses Hardy and A. Cundy scored a goal each for Featherston. Mr J. King was referee. MAJOR CUP COMPETITION. W.F.C.A. v. CARTERTON A. The W.F.C.A. and Carterton A mot at ilastsrtoa, yesterday. The,
game was a very even one, and was characterised by fast open play. The match resulted in a draw, each side scoring two goals. Throughout the first spell the ball was up and down the field. The W.F.C.A. were the first to score. The forwards got away with the ball in fine style, and passing nearly all the Carterton team they hit the ball in the circle, where Sellar scored a goal. Carterton replied, and from a scramble in front of the goal Lindop hit a goal and equalised the scores. Towards the end of the spell the home team began to show better play than their opponents, and from another rush, Minett registered a goal for the W.F.C.A. As soon as the second spell commenced, W.F.C.A. made a determined attack on their opponents' goal. W.F.C.A. held their lead for some time, and it seemed as though they would prove the winners. Towards the end of the game, however, they began to tire. For Ibe latter half of the spell ihe visitors were attacking continuously, but only one goal was scored, and that by W. Fisher. This made the scores equal, and the whistle sounded with Carterton still attacking, Two slight accidents occurred during the game. The match had only been in progress about two minutes when G. Sellar received a nasty hit from the ball, which inflicted a cut on his forehead. Towards the end of the game, Whitt collided with one of the opposing team and injured his leg slightly. Mr S. A.
