WAIRARAPA v. MANAWATU. (Special Reporter*.) j The Wairarapa representatives journeyed to Palmerston North, yesterday, and played a match against the Manawatu representatives. The Wairarapa team was considerably weakened owing to the inability of Rue, Denton, Minett, Fisher, Bunny and Lindop to get away. The game resulted in a win for the home team by three goals to nil, but the general play was of a more even chaiactei that the scores indicate. For the first fifteen minutes Wairarapa had the home team penned in their own 25's. A free hit off Sievers gave the Manawatu players an opening, and they rushed the ball down the field ard what seemed a certain goal was cleverly stopped by Hall. Wai.ara"">a again assumed the aggressive, but good play by Tucker Manr.vatu's goalkeeper, preventei any score. The home team removed play down the field, and a neat piece of passing between Tait, Fraser, and Jones resulted in the latter scoring the first goal of the match.' Shortly after this Fraser Lad a shot at goi 1, but missed. The visitors again returned to the aUtack, and their foiward play at this stage was excellent. .Shortly after half-time was called. Early in the second spell the visitors ae-.in pressed, their opponents, and a : ish, headed by Williams, was ftoppjd by Adams and Waikley. Wairarapa persevered in their attack, and in the circle Winter was within easy distance of hitting a goal. He struck hard, however, and the ball was sent over the bar. The Manawatu forwards carried play down the field, and Fraser scored a goal. Shortly afterwards, as the result of a pen ilty against the visitors, Crump scored the third and last goal of the match. The Manawatu forwards were a very even lot, and at timei their play was brilliant. Waikley and Adams did splendid work at full-back, and Tucker, as goalkeeper, played^a safe game. For Wairarapa, Williams, Carley, Pragnell, Thynne, Hall and Donald were the pick. Mr Warden was referee. The visitors were hospitably entertained at lunch by the home team, and as there was no time after the match for tea, a hamper was thoughtfully placed on the train by tne local players for the visiting team.
