STATE COAL.
From Our Parliamentary Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday, After the question of the Trust Lands Trust deputation to the Minister of Justice had been disposed of on Monday last, Mr McGov/an asked if any member of the Trust were, ■also, members of the Borough Council. Being answered in the negative, Mr McGowan went on to express hi s regret that the Borough Council had not undertaken the work of distributing State coal. 111 was of opinion that the distribution of coal was of so much importance that it should be treated in the same way as water, and made a matter for municipal enterprise. While this was his opinion, he was not by any means inclined to interfere with legitimate private enterprise; but he considered that the consumer should be able to •get coal produced by the State. Considerable discussion ensued, in the course of which it was mentioned that the Borough Council was already supplying consumers with coal from "the Gasworks.
