INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITALS.
THEIR COST TO THE BOROUGH. ?At the meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, last evening, a letter was received from Dr. J. P. Frengley, District Health Officer, stating that a meeting of the following local authorities would be held at the County Council Office, Masterton, at noon on Wednesday, July 17th, for the purpose of agreeing upon what share each of the local authorities shall contribute towards the cost of providing and maintaining hospitals for the treatment of infectious diseases:—The County Councils of Masterton, South Wairarapa, Featherston, Castlepoint, Akitio, Mauriceville, Eketahuna and Pahiatm, the Borough Councils of Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, Pahiatua, and Eketahuna, and the Toth Boards of Featherston and Martinborough. The Town Clerk said that the share of the Masterton Borough towards the cost of upkeep of infectious dis4kjes hospitals was 26 par cent. This might be considered too high, as the infectious diseases hospital which was now being built in Masterton was in the County and not in the Borough. Crs Ewington and Morris spoke against the proportion the Masterton Borough had to pay. They considered it too high, and were of opinion that a protest should be lodged. The Mayor, who was appointed to represent the Council at the meeting of delegates, said he would look into the matter and see what ■could be done at that meeting to relieve the oosition.
