PROPOSED RE-ARRANGEMENT OF BUILDINGS. "We'll never be an up-to-date Club unless we make alterations in our buildings on the course," said Mr Pownall at the meeting of the Stewards of the Masterton Racing Club on Saturday. He went on to say that he considered that the time had arrived when the Ground Committee should bring up a report upon the general re-arrangement of the buildings on the course. New buildings were required, and the club would have no difficulty in raising £1,500 or £2,000 by debentures with which to carry out the work. The club should obtain a report from a competent architect wirh regard to the re-arrangement of the buildings, so that the Stewards would have something tangible before them when they wanted to do the work. Mr J. Macara suggested that the matter should be held over until after the Racing Conference to see how the totalisator permits fared. He believed that there would be a general re-adjusting of totalisator permits at the next Conference, and in that case it would be advisable to wait arid, see what position the Masterton Club would be in. "It's quite on the cards that some of the totalisator permits will go," said Mr Caselberg, "but we must keep up-to-date or we might find ourselves to be one of those clubs without a permit." Mr Pownall said that it would be a good thing if the totalisator permits were taken away from some of the smaller clubs. He did not think the Masterton Club would suffer in that direction. At the same time, Mr Caselberg's remarks with regard to keeping up-to-date should be kept in mind. There would be no harm in obtaining a report from an expert on the general re-arrangement of the buildings. He moved —"That Mr West, of Palmerston North, be written to asking him on what terms he would be prepared to meet the Ground Committee and discuss the question of new building arrangements, with a view to preparing a report in connection therewith.''' The question of obtaining the necessary land for the proposed extension of the buildings was then raised. "Where there's a will there's a way," said Mr Pownall, "and if we decide to extend and re-arrange the buildings, we'll soon find the ground." The motion was seconded and carried. Further consideration will be given to the matter at the next meeting of Stewards.
