MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The. usual meeting' of the Council was held on Saturday, June 29th. There were present—Crs F. W. H. Kummer (chairman), H. J. Dagg, and C. A. Wall. Cr Jackson was granted leave of absence. Dr. Frengley, District Health Officer, wrote proposing to confer with the Council regarding the position in which it is placed by the withdrawal of the Department's Sanitary Inspector. Mr George McKay wrote drawing attention to the present state of the Mangarei Road, suggesting that a track should be opened for horse traffic, but that the repairs to the bridge should be held over as the ford has been much improved by the last floods. It was resolved that the Inspector should attend to the road as soon as some of the men working at the slips on the other roads can be shifted. The manager of the Lime Company applied for permission to put in a pipe culvert at a lower level, opposite the Company's quarry at the Limestone Hill. —Permission granted subject to the "Inspector's approval. The Chairman was authorised to arrange for the insurance of the new office. The Clerk was instructed to apply to the Minister of Lands with a view to the exchange of two small reserves for a metal pit on section 113, Block XIV., Mangaone. Accounts amounting to £43119s lid were passed for payment.
