MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
QUARTERLY RETURNS,
The quarterly return of the business done at the Masterton Magistrate's Court shows that the total number of sittings of the Court held during the term was 69, thirty of which were presided over by a Stipendiary Magistrate and 39 by Justices of the Peace. The number of civil cases dealt with during the term was 37, the aggregate amount sued for being £2,090 7s 6d, and the aggregate amount recovered being £1,021 0s 7d. There were 18 applications heard in Court or Chambers, 15 orders made bther than judgment summons, 206 plaints entered, 9 distress warrants issued, 23 judgment summonses issued, 5 orders made on judgment summons, 3 warrants of committal issued, one writ of arrest issued, 78 summonses and other processes served by the bailiff within two miles" and 41 over two miles, 11 distress warrants executed by the bailiff two warrants of committal executed by the bailiff. The amount of civil fees paid in stamps was £BS 14s, and the amount of licensing fees paid in stamps was £l2 16s. The total number of persons take into custody, summoned, or apprehended during the quarter was 205 (195 males and 10 females), 25 males were discharged for want of prosecution or want of evidence, 4 irales were committed for trial, 151 (144 males and 7 females) were summarily convicted, and 25 (22 males and 3 females) were otherwise dealt with. The amount of criminal fees paid in stamps was £2O 9s, and the amount paid in fines was £76 Is.
