TRANSVAAL AND ORANGIA.

Received July 3, 9.25 p.m. CAPETOWN, July 3,

The Cape Assembly unanimously adopted Mr J. Merriman's resolution thanking the Imperial Government for granting responsible government to the Transvaal and Orangia and expressing the hope that the federation of South Africa would follow. Dr. Jamescn bantered Mr Merriman for coming to the rescue of the Imperial Government. He declared that all South Africa wanted was responsible Government; only some thought that it ought to come earlier and some later. Mr Theodore Schreiner refused to vote, declaring that the Imperial Government had betrayed the native interests by granting an unconditional responsible Government.
