THE YELLOW PERIL.
I ,(To the Editor.) Sir, —After giving serious consideration to the much discussed question of the over influx of the Chinese into this colory, I think that a most effectual preventive could be established, if a basis were established by our Government to apply equally to the colonial and Chinese people, under which the same percentage of population would be to each, that is to say that . the present number of colonials resident in any and all parts of China represent so much per cent, of the Chinese resident in the same district, the same percentage vice versa should apply in this colony. Supposing that there is one colonial to 1,000 Chinese in China, by the same rule there should only be one Chinaman to 1.000 colonials here. This, I think, would do away with any need for a poll tax, and not conflict with existing treaties with Great Britain, or interfere with the trade relations between China and Great Britain, 1 and her colonies in any way.—l am, etc. KURIPUNI.
