TURF NOTES, (By Zetland.) Fifty-three nominations have been received for the Winter Cup, which is generally acknowledged to be among the principal one-mile events of the colony. Among the entrants are several which are included in this year's New Zealand Cup list. There are Lapland, Maniapoto, Aeolus, Fandango, Buccleuch, Maharanui, Probable, Aberration, Moloch, Montigo, Crichton, Seaman and Marguerite. Considerable interest is sure to be manifested in the running of these performers, and those (which perform creditably will then come into the betting market for the big event. The Wairarapa nominations for the Winter Cup are La Torpedo, Mataari, Jolly Friar, AberI* ration, Moloch, and Narcotic. Weights for the Wellington Winter Meeting are due on Friday next. Bonnie, by Bonnie Scotland, is the latest addition to W. Garret's Masterton team, the other members of which include Sandix, Oblivion, and Letherin. Apa and Starina have recently come into prominence in the New Zealand Cup betting, about £2,000 having been laid against each during the last week. Maniapoto was supported for a fairly large amount, and It is therefore probable that the son of Soult may be among the starters at Riccarton on November 2nd.
