By Telegraph—Press Association. NAPIER. June 26. Heavy rain set in during the night and though it tased off Bomewhat during the forenoon, the Napier Park Club decided to postpone the opening of the Winter Meeting till to-morro#.
The French Department of Agriculture, which, as the official promoter of horse breeding in France, has the supervision of the racecourses, published at the beginning of! May some figures concerning the amount of money wagered on the Paris racecourses. Since the opening of the racing season, some time in March, the pari mutuel had received £4,040,000 in wagers. In the same period last year the amount wagered was .63,400,000, and the year before about a quarter of a million less. The amount naid so far this season was .2114,400, or £12,000 more than for the same period last year. By the law which gives a percentage of the bets to the Treasury, M. Caillaux's department has already placed a third of a million in its coffers as the product of the State control of betting.
