STOCK MARKET.
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held their fortnightly sale at the Masterton yards on Wednesday. The rough weather prevented several advertised lines from coming forward, and for the same reason there was not the usual attendance of buyers. Bidding for sheep was not brisk. The chief entries in cattle were fats, some nice quality being offered and well competed for, all lots finding purchasers under the hammer. Store lambs sold J at 12s 3d, culls 9s 9d, store wethers 15s 9d, fat heifers £5 to £5 12s, fat ♦cows £4 19a, forward cows £'6 12s 6d, light bullocks £7, empty cows 80s, weaner steers 22s 6d. , Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report our weekly Pahiatua sale sheep came forward considerably in excess of advertised numbers. There were some good pens of breeding j ewes, and, although these j were mostly aged sorts, good competition resulted. 'JWie hoggets yarded were of inferior quality, and, although good prices in comparison t6 quality were offered, only a few sold. Empty ewes made late values. The cattle yarded exceeded the numbers advertised. Any good sorts readily found buyers, but those of indifferent quality were hard to quit. Empty ewes 14s Bd, ewes in lamb 18s, 17s lOd, 17s 9d, 14s 3d, 12s Bd, 12s; hoggets*-extra good, 18s 3d; empty heifers, 20 months, 24s 6d to 27s 6d; store cows, 24s to 27s 6d; 2 and 2J year steers £3 15s; three-year steers, good, £5 ss; forward bullocks, £5 15s; fat cows. £3 10s; weaner steers, 28s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report:—At Pahiatua, on Tuesday, a fair average yarding in both sheep and cattle came'torward.Y : For all sound sheep rates were, fully maintained, the aged classes proving a drag. In cattle, good steers Were in demand, but cows . and heifers showed no improvement in p'rice. At Masterton, on Wednesday, we offered a good yarding in sheep. At the start and all throughout the catalogue it was quite evident that only the better sorts were going to sell, finishing* a dragging, sale.
