WORKERS' LAND SETTLEMENT LEAGUE.

A meeting of the Mastcrton and District Workers' Land Settlement League was held last evening. Mr R. Rigg occupied the chair, and there were ten others present. The Chairman stated that the inclemency of the weather had probably a deterrent effect on the attendance, and this would prevent some of the questions on the order-paper being discussed. He would have liked to have seen thirty or forty persons present, so that all the questions could have been brought under discussion. The first question discussed was that of the Flour Millers' Trust. Mr D. Threadwelt moved—"That the League enter a strong protest, through Mr A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., against the action of the flour millers in raising the price of flour, and that Uie Government be urged to reduce the duty on imported flour." Mr Threadwell said that one had onty to ask local millers to ascertain that the rise in the price of flour was unwarranted. As consumers of bread, the question was one that affected all. If there was a scarcity of flour in the colony, he could quite understand the rise, but such was not the case. Though the pries of flour had been somewhat reduced, it was significant that the price of bread waa still high. Mr J. Check seconded the motion,, which, after a brief discussion, was carried. Mr J. Mackay and the secretary (Mr A. K. Johnston) were deputed to interview Mr A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., with regard to the general interests of the League, and bring under his notice the above motion and ask him to give it his support by bringing it before the House. Messrs Mackay, Check, AysoD, Flannagan and the Secretary were appointed a committee to canvass for members. It was resolved to introduce the following into the platform of the League:—"To watch all questions of a political or commercial nature affecting the interests of the community." The meeting then adjourned.
