WAIRARAPA SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa School Committees' Association was held in the Masterton Council Chambers, yesterday morning. Mr R. Brown, Chairman of the Masterton Schocl Committee, presided, and there were also present— Messrs E. J. Rose (Fernridge), R. G. Vile (Eketahuna), G. Garratt (Taueru), J. Welch (Opaki), J. Dick (Ngaturi), and E. Harper (Matahiwi). A remit from the Kopuaranga School Committee to the effect that the Education Board, when advertising vacancies in country schools, be asked to mention in the advertisement the locality of the school, was moved by Mr Rose. Mr Vile seconded the motion. Members considered that the motion was not quite clear, and further it was considered that when a vacan-' cy occurs in a country school the vacancy should be advertised in the newspapers circulating in the district where the vacancy occurs, and not only in the city papers as at present. A complaint was also made that insufficient time was given by the Board for teachers to answer advertisements for vacancies in schools. After being amended, in the above direction, the motion was carried. The proposal from the Ihuraua Committee, with reference to secondary subjects being taught in primary schools where the teachers in the latter were capable of doing so and where the latter schools were a reasonable distance from the secondary schools, was held, over owing to the absence of a delegate from the Ihuraua Committee. With regard to the installation of septic tanks at country schools, Mr Rosa reported that the Education Board had considered the Fernridge School an ideal one for experimenting in the matter, and until the Board carried out an experiment, he thought nothing more could be done. It was resolved to allow the question to stand over until the; result of the experiment at the Fernridge School was known. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow:—President. Mr R. Brown; Vice-Presidents, Messrs R. G. Vile and W. Jesson: Treasurer, Mr E. J. Rose; Executive Committee, Messrs C. C. Jackson, H. Evans, J. Hare, A. Percv, F. Court, and Rev. W. Woollass "(Pallia tua). The election of the remainder of the committee was held over in order to allow the School Committees in the Lower Valley to appoint representatives.. The Associatfon decided to support the candidature of Mr A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., in connection with the forthcoming Wellington Education Board elections. It was resolved to remunerate the secretary (Mr W-. M. Easthope) to the extent of £5 for his past services. The next meeting will be held on September 11th, at 11 a.m.
