THE LABOUR QUESTION. Received June 19, 9.12 a.m. PRETOKIA, June 18. In the Legislative Council, Sir George Farrar censured General Botha for breaking his promise ,to protect the mining interests. Sir George denounced the loan guarantee as a fresh instance of Downing Street in domestic successes, and taking the vital question of Labour out of the Transvaal's hands. He added that the Government policy respecting an increased supply of natives was merely a policy of pious hopes, in the teeth of the findings ot' many commissions. There were signs, continued the speaker, of an intention on the part of the Government to cancel the debts of repatriated burghers, while the leaders in Orange River Colony were united, hinting at their intention to repudiate all liability on behalf of their colony. NATIVE LABOUR. Received June 19, 10.40 p.m. PRETORIA, June 19. In the Assembly, Mr Rissik produced figures showing that there .was ample native labour available t.) replace the Chinese repatriated during the present year.
