ABOUT RABBITS.

By Telegraph—Press Association. WAIROA, June 13. ,* At a meeting of the Wairoa DistrictjA. and P. Society, last right [a letter was read from the Gisborne Farmers' Union urging Jthat Government be asked to erect a rabbit proof fence to stop the spread of rabbits. It was stated authoritatively that there was no ground for the statements that the southern portion of Wairoa district was infested with rabbits. The report of chief stock inspector and the assistant stock inspector, and the rabbit inspector, showed that the rabbits were 25 miles further back than they were 12 months ago, and there was no necessity for a four miles rabbit proof fence along the south side of the Mohaka River. The allegations made at a recent meeting at Gisborne were ridiculed. Mr H. Carlyon, ownerjof Maungataniwha, one of the properties injthis district, alleged to be infected, stated that he had put the matter in tfta hands of his solicitors with the view ox legal proceedings against the president of the Gisborne Farmers' Union. A motion was carried that a reply be sent that from the reports of both the rabbit and stock inspectors the statements made regarding rabbits being north of ilahaka River are without foundation.
