MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

SPECIAL MEETING. The adjourned special meeting of the Masterton Borough Council for the purpose of further considering the allocation of the money remaining on the £25,000 loan schedule was held last evening. There were pre- ! sent:—The Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), and Crs J. Elliott, P. W. Temple. A. Haughey, W. Morris, W. Pragnell, J. C. Ewington, J. Prentice and J. Yarr. An apology tor absence was received from Cr J. H. Pauling. The meeting was h"ld in committee, and the following report was supplied by the Town Clerk (Mr R. Brown). • With regard to the metalling of Pine Street it was decided to refer the matter to the Works Committee to consider. The questions of ploughing the centre of the road with a grader and spreading the metal at the sides, and also metalling of the centre of the road with broken metal, (the work to be proceeded; with at once) were also referred to the Works Committee. It was resolved to spend the balance of the money available for Bentley Street in laying a pipe drain and extending the sewerage. The Works Committee was instructed to ascertain whether there would be any difficulty in taking the sewers through private property. The Works Committee was authorised to proceed with the work of metalling Villa Street South, and that part of Villa Street North that has been widened. The expenditure of money on the metalling of Lincoln Road was held over pending consideration of the question of re-grading the street.' The Works Committee was instructed to put in hand at once the work of metalling Chapel Street, and gravelling the footpaths in the street. The question of building two new culverts in Renall Street was referred to the Works Committee to report upon. The same course was adopted with regard to the extension of footpaths and gravelling in Church Street. The matter of extending the Makora Street Bridge was allowed to stand over for the present. In connection with the extension of Cockburn Street to Colombo Road, the Mayor and the chairman of the Works Committee were deputed to wait on the County Council with reference to having the location of the proposed extension settled. The Works Committee was authorised to have the gravelling of High Street carried out by the Borough staff. It was decided to call tenders for the work of forming Hogg Crescent and Bunny Street, including the erection of bridges where requried. It was resolved to complete the outlet from Makora Road to Colombo Road. Further consideration of the schedule was held over.
