PONGAROA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Friday. A presentation of a handsome dressing-case was made to Mrs J. Thomas, of Horoeka, by the settlers, on Wednesday last. Mr G. H. Gillam made the presentation, and referred to the kindness and hospitality and to the readiness of Mrs Thomas to assist in anything that was for the general welfare of the settlers in the district. The departure of Mr and Mb Thomas from the district, he' said, was very much regretted. .*":;.;£ It is reported that a quantityjpf red lead has been stolen from the site of the Waihi suspension bridge. Mr R. B. Ross, M.H.R., visited the Pongaroa School when in this district, and expressed himself pleased With what he saw. Mr Ross has obtained grants for the several public works in this district. fefiS&J
