STOCK MARKET.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report on their stock sale at Greytown, yesterday, as follows:--We submitted a large entry of sheep of all classes. Bidding was very slow at the start, but improved as the sale proceeded, which resulted in a clearance at sound rates. Cattle were also wetl represented, and vendors realising that cattle were slow of sale, made the reserves easy, with tho result that we succeeded in quitting the whole catalogue. In dairy stock, Mr D. Udy's cows were the chief attraction, dairymen from all districts being present, who bid freely throughout the whole list, none being neglected. Best breeding ewes,made 15s, others 12a, lis, 10s 6d, and 10s, empty ewes 13s 6c), small wethers 14s 6d; lambs, best 12s Bd, others lis, 10s Gd, Bs. Cattle-—Small steers 30s to 34s Od; yearlings? 25&; calves 20s; springing heifers, 675, 60s, and 50s; forward cows; 60s; forward heifers, 50s; heifers in calf, 455-. aged cows, 20s; fifty dairy cows and heifers, on account of Mr D. Udy, made an average of close on 455.
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on a clearing sale held on'account of Mr Geo. Burling, at Pongarca, as follows: —■ Notwithstanding the extremely bad state'of the roads a large number of buyers were present, nnd good prices were. obtained all through the sale. ! The breeding ewe 3 topped the market so far this season, making 22s <3d, r hoggets made from 115.6 d to 14s Bd, wethers 17s, and aged rams 10s tq, 12s. In qattle, dairy cows sold at from £i 10s ! to £3 15s, cows and calves £2 2s Gd, 18 month heifers 30s to £2 7s 6d, heifers in calf £2 7s 6d to £2 17s 6d, fat and forward cows £b 17s, 2-year steers £2 15s to £4, calves lis, and a host of sundries and furniture at full rates.
