BIDEFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The weather haa been very wet and unsettled for the past fortnight or so, and oar roads look anything but tempting for the winter months. Mr E. L. Holmwood has disposed of his station to Mr Harris, of Peilding, at a very satisfactory figure. Our school opened here last Thursday after a week's vacation, which I am afraid moat of the children spent indoors. Mr Bennett, our energetic schoolmaster, is at present coaching his scholars into form for a debate and concert, which is to take place in the Bideford Hall towards the end of the month. With the approach of longer evenings cannot some of our young folk start a boxing class or some other amusement? Sportsmen have not had very good weather so far as the present season is concerned, and birds of all kinds are reported to be more than usually scarce. Very slow progress has been made with the Glendonald Bridge over the Taueru River, owing to several lots of timber being washed away by the floods. It is reported that the bridge will be open for traffic in a few days.
