TINUI.

(Prom Our Own Cot-respondent.)

TINUI, June 3. The Wairarapa Hunt Club held a meet here on the Ist instant. The day was beautifully line, and a large number of people were present. Miss Smith (Wellington) had promised to lay the drag, and as a lady had not previously taken pavt in the runs here, the interest in the hunt was keener than ever. This young lady, mounted on that magnificent hunter "Rata," and riding in reformed dress, looked a thorough horsewoman, and afterwards proved that she had not deceived her looks. The going, owing to the recent floods, was heavy, and the jumps high. Coming over a wide drain the bank gave way, and Rata nearly came to grief, but Miss Smith held her mount well together. All the jumps were then safely negotiated till the last fence was reached. Here Rata "slipped badly, and landed on the other side with his nose on the 0 ground. Miss Smith handled her \ horse in fine style. The unanimous - opinion is that the men can take a lesson in riding over fences from this lady. Mr A. A. Cameron had a nasty fall through his horse coming down. All the other horses jumped in fine style. After the ran everybody adjourned tc the Town Hall, were afternoon tea was provided by Mesdames A. T. Hancock, J. A. Perry and W. H. Brooks, a kindness that was much appreciated and needless to say these ladies were heartily cheered. The following took part in the run: —Messrs, J.Shaw (huntsman), on Firestick; G. G- Beard, on Moonlight, and W. H. Brooks, on Hangaroo (whips); B. Vallance (acting master), on Te Kohau; H.Morrison, on Bones; R. Morrison on Gunmetal; Miss Smith, on Rata; A. A. Cameron, on Temai; G. Cox, on Liberty; H. A. Millar, on Dashing Kate; L. B. Vallance, on Garry; G. Fellingham, on Polly; J. Douglas, on Robin; "Bush" Reardon, on Jenny Lind; B. Schofield, on Dauntless; J. Wingate,on Rocket; E. Gollerton, on Lady Flintlock; J. Floyd, on Floater; J. Collerton, on Giraffe; J. O'Brien, on Sandy; B. Collerton, on War Dog; and T. Collerton, on Weary Bill. The Mounted Rifles held their annual ball on May 31st, and the 9 function was largely attended. The new uniforrr.s of the corps looked very nice, and gave the room a gay appearance.
