CALLIOPE DOCK ACCIDENT.
CLAIMS FOR DAMAGES. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 3. - Mr Justice Denniston sat in chamber, this morning, to ascertain how many actions set down for hearing during the civil sittings were ready. In regard to the claims for damages arising out of the Calliope dock disaster, his Honour said that if the parties did-not agree to have the general liability tested by the action of the Shaw Savill and' Albion Company against the Harbour Board he could not try any other cases during the present sitting. Special juries had been called in all but one of the •cases, but it was open for parties to fresh arrangements if they •clfese. He had no time, however, to try these cases, even on the question of damages. It was mentioned by Mr J. R. Reed that the steamer Mamari. had specially come to New Zealand so that /mk,'- the officers could give evidence, and he suggested that their statements might be used in the other cases. Mr Cotter, representing the defendants, said he was quite content. The principal action will commence ■on Monday, June 17th.
