iRRISONERS -IN NEW SOUTH WALES. ißeceived Mayo3l, 10.15 a.m. SYDNEY, May 31. HHie steady .decrease in the gaol ipqpulation of New South Wales continues. The annual report shows that .there are 162 fewer prisoners than .there were ,at the commencement of the year.
EARTHQUAKE SHOCK. (Received May 81, 10.15 a.m. MELBOURNE, May 31. A sharp shock of . earthquake was ielt at Caster ton yesterday. MEJEHODIST CONFERENCE. Received May 31,11.26 p.m. SYDNEY, May 31. Dr Youngman has been elected Secretary of the Methodist Conference. The Rev. Slade complained that no New,Zealander„ .except himself, had'.been asked to take part in any functions in connection with the Conference. This was a bad blunder, •and he was particularly aorry to have to make such a complaint in view of the feeling that was growing in jNew Zealand for a separate Conference. Several members promptly expressed the wish to be neiieved in favour of Naw.Zealand visitors.
