NEW TECHNICAL SCHOOL BUILDING.
BOBOUGH COUNCIL VOTE £IOO. Messrs W. H. Jackson and M. C. O'Connell waited on the Masterton Borough Council, last evening, and i made application for a grant towards a new Technical School building for Masterton. Mr Jackson said he was sure the deputation had the sympathy of the Council in connection with the effort that was being made to obtain an up-to-date and suitable building for the accommodation of the large and numerous classes now attending the Technical School. He stated that the present building, which a part of the old Post Office, consisted of two or three rooms quite inadequate and thoroughly unsuitable for the Technical Classes. Rooms scarcely large enough for twenty pupils in each had to accommodate twice that number. In every respect the present building was only a poor makeshift. He reminded the members of the Council of the efforts being maJe in America and > at Home in connection with the equipment of such educational institutions. He said that the day was past when the provision made by tfce Government, Education Boards, and other educational authorities was regarded as all that wa3 needful or de-, sirable in connection with education. In appealing to the Council, Mr Jackson pointed out that that body was empowered to contribute, even to the extent of a special vote, for the purpose. He trusted the Council would favourably consider the application, and assist in providing the t fund for the building which the Technical School Managers desired to have erected on the site provided by the Trust Lands Trust. Mr O'Connell also spoke in "support of the application. Cr Ewington moved, and Cr Paul- \ ing seconded, that £IOO be plated on ■ the estimates this "year as a donation towards the erection of a Technical School in Masterton. . J The motion was carried unanimously. The deputation thanked tße Council and withdrew.
