TURF NOTES.

The Wanganui Racing Club's Winter Meeting will open to-day. Being the first steeplechase meeting of the season, considerable interest is being taken in it throughout the colony. Good fields will contest all of to-day's events, and tho racing is sure to be decidedly interesting. Good track work has been done by quite a number of leading performed during the week. The only Wairarapa horse engaged to-day is Gawain, and he is expected to run well. The following are suggested as likely to gain the judge's verdict in their respective laces i— ~ Borough Handicap.—Kurawaka and St. Claimer.
Wanganui Steeplechase.— Waitarere and Nestator.
Electric Hack Handicap.—Toa Tuhi and Pearlie. May Hurdles.—Pushful and Mahoe. Kaitoke Hack Hurdles.—Kaipetipeti and Te Uira. Connolly Handicap.—Marguerite and King Billy. Purua Hack Flat.—Stay Boy and Lingerer.
