MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MEETING OP WORKS COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Masterton Borough Works Committee was held last evening. There were present Crs J. H. Pauling (chairman), A. Haughey, W. Pragnell, J. Prentice, W. Morris, and the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine).. The Engineer was directed to fill up the drain for surface water to the level of the outfall, to remedy the matter complained of by Mr Bunny, at a cost of not exceeding £5. In reference to the Waipoua River damaging land, complained of by Mr Annan, the Town Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Keith that the Committee would not be justified in erecting a groyne to protect private proprety, but would be prepared to haul back the willows to the bank provided the cost is paid by the Renall Estate Trustees. It was decided that the Renall Estate Trustees be off ered-the severed piece of land at the south end of Villa Street, subject to title, for £IOO, the Council to fill in the present creek and put a culvert in a new channel, where suitable to the Estate, provided the offer is closed with at once, the Estate to give the land to widen Villa Street South, and the Council to set back the fence and make the footpath free of charge.
It was resolved to recommend that Mr J. Pickett's offer to give Bft 3in of his section in Villa Street for street widening and to remove the house, fence, live hedge, etc., for the sum of £55, be accepted, provided an agreement is made with provision that all the necessary work shall be done by Mr Pickett.
Other matters of a routine nature were attended to, and the estimates were held over for further consideration.
