MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. .The monthly meeting of the Mas • terton County Council was held, yes- " terday , aftenwon, in the £ounty Office. There were present—Crs C. ', .E4.Cockbufh-Ho.od (chairman), W. J. Welch,' W. Harris, J. Morris, H. Toogood, A. Murray, R. F. R. Beetham and J. Colquhoun. An • • apology for absence was received from Or Kebbell. Cr3 Beetham and Colquhoun, who were recently elected to fill vacancies, were welcomed to the Council by the Chairman. Mr Hugh McPhee, of Carterton, wrote asking the Council to allow him .to take a traction engine to Eketahuna without taking out a license. The application was granted, provided Mr McPhee entered into the usual bond. Mr F. Shaw, Te Ore Ore, wrote stating that a culvert was required at the junction of Cave's Road and the Te Ore Ore-Bideford Road. The matter was left in the hands of the Councillor for the riding and the Engineer to deal with. A letter was received from Mr J. Barr, Lansdowne, claiming £5 for damages done to his property through storm water. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Councillors for the riding and the Engineer to be dealt with. Mr C. F. Vallance, Kahumingi, wrote asking for permission to lay a water pipe under the road through his property. Permission was granted subject to the Engineer's approval. v Messrs Gawith and Logan, barristers and solicitors, wrote asking that the Council's seal be attached to the plan of the road purchased by Mr "Vallance through Fernyhurst. The , prooosed road will run from the Fernyhurst Road to the boundary of Kahumingi at Ngatahuna. It was laid off by the County Engineer and Mr Vallance's surveyor and has been done in accordance with the former's directions. Mr Vallance is subdividing his* property, and he cannot obtain a title to the Ngatahuna portion of it until this proposed road is made a public road. Mr Vallance has purchased the strip of land for the road frorh Mrs Chalmers, and is prepared to execute the necessary transfer to vest the road in the Council. Mr Valhnce is also prepared to com- ; * plete the formation of the road to the satisfaction of the Council.—lt was decided to take the County Solicitor's opinion on the matter. Mr A. H. Johnston, Lansdowne, wrote withdrawing his guarantee in connection with the expenses of the Lansdowne high-pressure water service proposal, as he would be leaving the district shortly. Messrs Kebbell Bros., Te Hoe, Alfredton, forwarded a contribution of £SO towards metal repairs on the Castle Hill Road. . Mr C. H. Cox, Hinemoa, wrote asking that his thirds should be expended in supplying timber to re-deck a bridge giving access to his property. If the timber was supplied Mr Cox would do the necessary work. •*
