TARANAKI BYE-ELECTION.

By Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, May 12. The contest for the Taranaki byeelection is becoming exciting. Each side has all its forces marshalled. Mr. Massey and Hon. J. Carroll are in the district addressing meetings on behalf of Messrs Okey and Dockrill, respectively. A feature of the campaign has been the large audiences which have met candidates everywhere. On Monday night the Ho.i. J. Carroll will speak in the Theatre Royal, and Mr Massey in the Drill Hall.- Mr Malone-, the Independent Liberal candidate, may possibly address the meeting after Mr Carroll. Locrlly Mr Dockrill*s chance of election is favoured, although the vote wilt be split.
