OLD-AGE PENSIONS., Received May 12, 4.37 p.m. LONDON, May 11. In the House of Commons, the Government accepted the principle of the Old-age Pensions Bill, introduced by Mr W. H. Lever, butj not its details. The Bill passed the second . reading, and was referred to a committee of the whole house. FUNDAMENTAL POLICY. Received May 12, 5 p.m. " LONDON, May 11. ' Speaking at Manchester, Sir H. -Campbell-Bannerman declared that if -a poll was taken in the colonies tomorrow he was certain that only a very small number would favour forcing, even' by the gentle art of .persuasion, upon the Motherland a change of her fundamental policy in their supposed interest. He proceeded to contend that it was necessary to . resist the efforts of those calling the colonies to help them to destroy,the .principles of free imports and free industries.
