ALLEGED ATTEMPTED ROBBERY.

By Telegraph—Press Association. NELSON, May 7. Ml Wm. Hewitt, driver of the Wakacoach, was going out to The Glen, on Friday evening, at 6 o'clock, and when near Leager's Poll a well-dressed man hailed him and ,got on the box. Hewitt says he noticed the man attempting to rob the money bag, and immediately on discovery the man struck Hewitt on the face and jumped off the coach. Hewitt, who is a stalwart Irishman, says he stopped the horses, followed the man, and had a severe fight. He left the man much mauled on the •Toad. Hewitt proceeded to Wakapu- • aka, and did not* report the matter till next day.
