FOOTBALL.
In connection with the reported tour of a team of professional footballers from New Zealand to England, to play teams uncfer the Northern Union jurisdiction, it is understood that from ten to a dozen players in Auckland have been asked by the promoters to make the. trip. The greatest reticence is, however, observed by the players, but from what can be ascertained all [the Auckland members of the "All Black" team have been asked, and a few other prominent players. Most of them have said that they are not prepared to go,' but it is believed that several have expressed a willingness to make the trip. A meeting of the Albion Juniors was held in the Occidental Hotel,
last evening. Mr W. Logan presided over a large attendance of members. Fourteen new members were elected. The election of officers resulted as follows: Captain, T. Morris; Vice-Captain, H. Jones; Selection Committee, A. Keeble and P. Haftka. A vote of thanks to the Chairman and Mr O'Meara for ] the use of the room concluded the meeting. THE PROPOSED PROFESSIONAL TEAM. By Telegraph—Press Association. NAPIER, May 7. The Hawke's Bay Rugby Union, at a meeting to-night, passed the following resolution: "That this Union views with disapproval the movement now being made to, send a professional team of footballers to England, and urges the New Zealand Rugby Union to do its utmost to kill the project, as in the opinion of this Union it is likely to have a very damaging effect on amateur Rugby football in future."
