MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MEETING OF WORKS COMMITTEE. The first meeting of the new Borough Works, Drainage, and Abattoir Committee was Jheld last evening. There were present—Crs J. H. Pauling,;J. Pragnell, A. Ha,ughey and W. Morris. Cr Pauling was appointed chairman of the Committee. ,Mr T. G. Mason waited on the meeting with reference to the widening of Makora Street. The Committee promised to go into the matter, and give Mr Mason a definite reply. The Committee discussed the schedule of works for the coming year, and decided |to meet again on Monday evening next to complete the estimates. Cr Pragnell and the Chairman were deputed" to report as to the erection of corporation yards. Crs Pauling and Pragnell were also appointed a committee to interview Mr B. Brodie with reference to the deepening or straightening of Makora Creek between Chapel Street and Queen Street. The Engineer was authorised to have two buildings in Cross Street removed to enable the street to be widened. The Chairman and Crs Morris and Prentice were appointed a committee to interview owners of land in South OhapeljStreet with reference to the widening of that portion of the treet.« It was decided to recommend the Council to proceed with the widening of" Dixon Street near Mr jVlacara's residence, and also to purchase the right-of-way from Lincoln Jload to gravel reserve in the river. Thd Committee decided to put two new culverts across South Road to carry off the water there. • Crs Pragnell and Haughey and the Chairman were appointed a comi itee to interview owners of land in 'erence to the widening of Bentley .1 Villa Streets. \ committee consisting of Crs irris and Pragnell was appointed interview the owners of property ,he junction of Columba Road and , ripuni Street in connection with straightening of the creek in t locality. 'he Committee decided to recomid the Council to agree to do* the k in Makora Street extension hin six months. The meeting i decided to put two and a half ins of picket fence, instead of chains, in front of "Mr J. Buteit's property in' Michael Street, so Committee will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday next to open tenders he laying of water pipes to the ,toir. i
