FOOTBALL.

RED STAR v. GREYTOWN. A match was played in Fraser's Paddock, Masterton, on Saturday afternoon, between the' Red Star and reytown Seniors teams. Neither nib was fully represented. The round was in a slippy condition, and Jlitated against a good exposition i' the game. An unfortunate accimt occurred during the first spell, /. Scorrar was prominent in taking the ball to the line and Grey town were kept busy defending. The Grey town forwards carried play to the centre, but a clever piece of play by Walker set the back machinery of the Stars in motion, and the ball was taken to the line. Play centred for a time, and several Star passirg rushes were The Stars attacked repeatedly, and eventually McLachlan scored a neat try, which was not converted. Shortly after, Carrick (wing threequarter) got over the line for the Stars, but the kick at goal was a failure. The most noticeable features of the remainder of the game were good work by Wing, the Star fallback, determined rushes by the Grey town forwards, a fine run by Smith, a Star forward, and good play by Workman, Ross and Wynes for Grey town. The whistle sounded time with the score—Red Star, 14 points; Grey town, nil. Mr T. G. Hoar was referee. MASTERTON CLUB. The Masterton senior and junior teams played a match on the Showgrounds, on Saturday, the juniors winning by 11 points to 9. Neither side had a full team, and the seniors had one or two players less than the juniors. Two tries were scored for the winners by Jack Hanley and one by McHattie. Plarding converted one of the tries. For the seniors Ross, Meredith and Duggan scored tries. Hanley, Daniell, and MacMahon showed up well on the junior forwards, and Harding and Holmes were the pick of the backs. Jas. Hanley played a good, safe game s fullback. Lyall, Mackellar, and Boddington were prominent in the senior forwards, and O'Leary, Duggan and Garnett were the pick of the backs. Mr R. Spademan was referee. By Telegraph—Press Association. The Senior Cup matches resulted as follow : Ponsonby beat Parnell by 17 to 3, and North Shore beat Grafton by 13 to nil.
