OXFORD UNIVERSITY. Received May 3, 8.34 a.m. LONDON, May 2. Lord Curzon, who was recently elected Chancellor of the Oxford University, defeating Lord Rosebery, is appealing for a quarter of a million to strengthen the endowments and to equip Oxford University on modern lines for literary and scientific studies. MR CHARLES SANTLEY. Received May 3, 9.20 a.m. LONDON, May 2. The Albert Hall.was packed on the occasion of Santley's jubilee. Many leading singers and instrumentalists performed. To the testimonial fund £2,000 has been subscribed. It is open till June. (Mr Charles Sar.tl ay's • first great operatic success was in the opera "Dinorah," in 1859. He became a favourite singer at all the principal London and provincial concerts and* festivals, including the Handel Festival, where for many years he has been a principal singer. Mr Santley visited the colonies about 18 years ago). SIR GEORGE ARBUTIINOT , ARRESTED. Received May 3, 10.7 a.m. CALCUTTA, May 2. Sir George Arbuthnot has been arrested at Madras on a criminal charge in connection with his firm's bankruptcy.
