CHINESE ON THE RAND.

Received May 3, 9.14 a.m. LONDON, May 2. General Botha,t Premier of the Transvaal, was the guest at a dinner given by the Transaaal banking, commercial, and mining interests. He declared that the Government would not attempt to deal with the Labour question before making a drastic enquiry. He desired to see the existing mines continue at work, and to see other mines opened up in the near future. Lord Harris hailed with satisfaction General Botha's reference to the mines as a safe investment. Reuter's Pretoria correspondent states that Mr Smuts, Colonial Secretary, replying to a Labour deputation, said the Government was determined to repatriate the Chinese at the earliest possible opportunity, and to absorb the|unemp!oyed whites.
