The sum of £8,669 was put through the machine, as against £3,28G for the corresponding day last year, an increase of £3,286. Dividends, £27 16s and £2 2s. Hurdle Race, 2 miles.—Landlock, 10.7 (Cress), 1; Bonomiana, 9.2, 2; Loch Fyne, 9.0, 3. Other starters —Fabricator. Won by two lengths. Time, 3min 52Jsec. Dividend, £3 10s. Oakley Handicap, 5 furlongs. - Kola Nip, 7.0 (Pell), 1; Waitati, 7.5, 2; Duart, 7.7, 3. Scratched—Aristocrat, Manapouri. Won by a length. Time, lmin 4sec. CASTLEPOINT RACES,

The first race meeting of the Whakataki Hack Racing Club was held on the B?ach at Castlepoint on Saturday last. The weather was fine but cold, and there was a fair attendance from the surrounding districts. The secretary (Mr W. H. Mason) and all the officials worked hard to make the meeting a success.
