OHAKUNE, April 25. There are no further signs of activity on Mt. Ruapehu, but it is reported that a portion of the eastern side of the crater of Mt. Ngaruhoe has been broken down by ejected material. The most recent ascent of Mt. Ruapehu was made at Easter time by two officers of the Public Works Department, at Ohakune. They found the crater lake steaming with indications of ice walls having been undermined by hot water, and dust, and a quantity of stones were found on the snow surrounding the crater. Some of the largest pieces of material were a foot in diameter. A portion of one piece brought back burned with a blue sulphurous flame. These stones. had been ejected hot, as they have melted their way into hard snow and ice.
