Judgment given in connection with the stranding of the steamer Suevic is to the effect that the disaster was due to the master maintaining full speed towards land in hazy weather. ['Considering Captain Jones' previous record, and his conduct after the casualty, the Court decided to suspend his certificate for three months only.
A PRIVY COUNCILLOR. Received April 25. 9.57 p.m. LONDON, April 25. Mr Winston Churchill hafe been created a Privy Councillor. '« ALIENS AT HOME. Received April 25, 8.42 a.m. LONDON, April 24. The Grand Jury| at the Oid Bailey was impressed with the number of cases in which aliens appear, and unanimously expressed the opinion that the exclusion of undesirables and the deportation of others should be more vigorously enforced. The recommendation will be forwarded to the Government
WOOLWICH ARSENAL. Received April 25, 9.46 p.m. LONDON, April 25. The authorities of the Woolwich arsenal are taking a ballo 4 : of all workmen employed regarding the proposal to close the shops on Saturdays. It 'is hoped, by working five days a week, to reduce the number of discharges by one-half at an average loss of 3s 6d per man. The majority of the Royal Laboratory employees approve of the proposal. The ballots at other workshops are proceeding.
