MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MEETING OF WORKS COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Masterton Borough Council as a Works Committee of the whole was held in the Council Chambers, last evening. There were present: Crs E. McEwen (in the chair), J. C. Ewington, W. Morris, T. G. Hoar and Jas. Elliott. Mr W. B. Chennells, secretary of St. Matthew's Parish Vestry, wrote stating that he was authorised by the Diocesan Trustees to accept the I offer of the Borough Council to | asphalt the right-of-way at the rear I of Hunter's Buildings on part of the Church Acre, at a cost, of £l2, as quoted by the Engineer.—-The Engineer was instructed to carry out the work. The chairman stated that Messrs Bulpitt and Cole were prepared to hand over to the Council a piece of land, eight feet wide, and six chains long, at the end of Chapel Street, near Michael Street, for the purpose of widening the street, for , the sum of JEls.—The Council de- j cided to accept the offer, and to recommend the new Council to seriously consider the advisability of acquiring portions of the land belonging to other owners in Chapel Street for the same purpose, aj soon as possible. Cr Moiris stated that Mr Bunny had complained about the water running on to his property at the rear of his residence. Cr McEwen said Mr Bunny had also spoken to him about the m;u.i;er, and he had informed Mr Bunuy 'that the water would shortly be div-ried into the Town Creek. Accounts amounting to £254 10s 3d were passed for payment.
