OLD-AGE PENSIONER'S DEATH.
THE CORONER'S INQUEST
An old age pensioner, named Charles Horace Drummond Lennox, died at the residence of Mr T. Wagg, Masterton, on Friday./ An inquest was held on Saturday morning, before Mr W. P. James, S.M.. District Coroner, and a jury consisting of Messrs Eli Smith (foreman), George Hyde, George Phillips, T. Mackay, S. R. Aymes, and H. S. Young. Thomas Wagg deposed that deceased had been living with him for about five and a half years. He occupied a room at the rear of the witness' house. Since the deceased left a private hospital, about eighteen months ago, he had been occasionally under medical treatment. On the night of the 11th instant, in consequence of the deceased not appearing at tea, witness and his wife went to his'whare, and found him suffering Violently from headache. At 9.30 o'clock and 10.30 o'clock witness again saw him, and on each occasion he appeared to be sleeping soundly. Next morning witness' son said that Lennox was quite cold, and on visiting the whare witness found him dead. He had suggested to Lennox on the previous evening that he should see a doctor, but Lannox said it would ba no good. It was believed that he had a daughter in Christchurch and a son in South Africa. Kate Waggy wife of, the last witness, and Guy Wagg, son, gave corroborative evidence. Dr. Archer Hosking said that he concluded, from the evidence, that death was due to apjplexy. The symptoms and the appearance of the body were similar to those of apoplexy. The jury returned a verdict that death was dua t:> apoplexy.
