Chamberlain is applying for a divorce, on the ground of his wife's adultery with Sir Brodrick Hartwell, with whom she eloped to Australia. The Judge was satisfied with the evidence of adultery, and adjourned the case for proof of marriage.
DOCTORSHIP OF LAWS. Received April 14, 4.40 p.m. LONDON, April 13. The Edinburgh University has conferred the honorary degree of Doctorship of Laws on Sir Joseph Ward, Dr. Jameson, and Mr F. R. Moor, Premier'of Natal. Dean Gray, in conferring the degrees, remarked that Sir Joseph Ward's dominant characteristics w,ere perseverance, energy, and rare business capacity.
