BESSES O' TH' BARN BAND.
The box plans for the Royal Besses o' th' Barn Band concerts open, this morning, at Messrs McLeod and Young's (reserved seats ;ss). Judging from the vast k amount of interest manifested in the visit of this renowned band, a very great demand for reserved seats is likely to result. Messrs J. and N. TaitJ are to be congratulated on pioneering the visit of aiieh a famed organisation, the success of which is assured, as the attraction appeals to young and old of all classes, and the reputation gained by the Besses by their wonderful playing, apart from their supremacy over all other bands, has never before been equalled. The brief Masterton season, of two nights, with special matinees, will commence on Thursday, 18th instant. The Lyttelton Times says:—"There was a unanimity in the playing of and such a regularity of tone and perfection of balance that the first almost irresistable impression was that there was no brass band but a sweet-toned organ, and even in the loud passages there was never a suggestion of ordinary brass band effect." In the varied programmes indulged in by the Besses, a plentiful number of solos is given by the lead ng cornet, horn, trombone, and euphonium players. The playing of that beautiful hymn, "Lead Kindly Light," is described as having an exceedingly inspiring effect. The presence of Mr Alexander Owen, the celebrated conductor, with the Besses on their tour adds considerably to the attractiveness of the Besses' concerts.
