VIOLENT CYCLONE,

Received April 8, 8.37 a.m. MELBOURNE, April 8.

A cyclone struck the east end of Bairnsdale, in Tanjil County, a town of about 1,500 population, and unroofed several buildings and damaged many. The cyclone crossed and recrossed the river, scooping up immense quantities of water and discharging it over the town. A man was lifted in the air and was blown 50 feet.

FATAL ACCIDENT. Received April 8, 11.57 p.m. SYDNEY, April 8. A man named Johnson, a municipal employee, v/as electrocuted at the 7 lighting station through falling across a live wire.

Word has now been received that the owners of the steamer have presented Captain Corner with £3OO, and have divided £2OO among the crew.
