TURF NOTES.
(By Zetland).
Mr W. J. Jorgenson, of Wellington, has decided to give up racing, and his racehorses and young stock are to be submitted for sale by auction this week. It is probable that Declination will not be raced again this season. She ran very disappointingly at Tauherenikau on the first day of the Wairarapa meeting, and her owner afterwards decided to throw her out of work.
The Wairarapa horses nominated for the Thompson Handicap appear to be fairly treated in the matter of weight, and the majority of them should be accepted for. Mahuta and Full Rate are most in favour just now, but Scotch Reel and Sherlock Holmes will have a good following. Wailethe has been thrown out of work for a time. The Lethe mare has been doing good track work, but becomes very excitable when the colours are carried. It has been decided to hack her about for a few months with a view to quietening her. Wairarapa will be well represented at the Marlborough meeting next month; but it depends to a certain extent on the weight adjuster whether much of the stake money comes this way. Riflemaid's backward running at the Feilding meeting was attribuable to the very heavy state of the racing track. Sylverie, who was taken South by the Master ton trainer, R. J. Marr, won no less than four events at the Westport meeting recently. Silken Rein wili probably compete in the hurdle events at the Blenheim meeting next month. Rongokako, by Vogengang—Field Piece, has gone into D. Wilkinson's stable at Clareville.
