A "STICKING-UP" CASE.
By Telegraph—Press Association, GREYMOUTH, April 1. A determined "sticking up" case occurred late on Saturday night. Mr McConchie, manager of Hannah and Company's boot shop, was proceeding home at 11 o'clock when in a lonely part he was hit on the head with a heavy instrument and felled to the ground. He recovered ftom the blow, and struggling with his assailant called out "Murder." His cries wera heard, and the cowardly robber fled. McConchie fired a stone at his assailant, but could not recognise him. When assistance arrived McConchie collapsed, and it was found that he had received a big cut on the top of the head. A doctor was at once sent for, and six stitches were put in the wound. McConchie was much better to-day, and no serious consequences are anticipated. The police are trying to find a clue. McConchie was in the habit of taking the firm's money home on Saturday night for safety, and at the time of the assault had £4OO.
