MASTERTON BAGPIPE BAND.
A meeting of pipers and others interested was held in the Farmers' Implement Company's show-room, on Thursday evening, to discuss the project of forming - a pipe band in Masterton. Mr W. Smith presided, and there were about twenty others present, including representatives from the Masterton and Hawke's Bay Caledonian Societies and Masterton St. Patrick's Day Sports Association. It was decided, on the motion of the Chairman, that a bagpipe band be formed in Masterton. The Secretary reported that ten pipers had signified their intention of joining the band, . and that there were several others who would, in all probability, do so. ' Support had been promised from several influential citizens. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Masterton Caledonian Society and St. Patrick's Day Sports Association and endeavour to obtain their support. The following officers were elected (subject to their consent): —Patron, Mr W. C. Buchanan; President, Mr J H. Pauling; Vice-Presidents, Messrs J. Pickett, J. Strang, G. Swan, and A. Turner; General Committee, Messrs R. Mcßae, A. Fraser, W. Smith, B. Johns, G. Mackay, F. O'Toole, and T. Pickett; Secretary, Mr H. Miller. Judging from the enthusiasm shown at the meeting, and the suj> port promised, there is every prospect of the band being a decided success.
